In 1988 Santa Fe's Jack Schaefer, author of the classic western "SHANE" commissioned David to carve & Paint a Dalmatian Step Stool (pictured) Stanley Marcus, of "Neiman-Marcus" saw Jack's Dalamatian and called his buyer in Dallas: "Let's have this Ross fellow make a COYOTE step stool for this year's Christmas Catalogue!"
David shipped over 125 "Howling Coyote" Step Stools that year. David opened his "Functional Animal Art" gallery in his Canyon Road home and his art has since gone to the Dogs... and cats!
In the three months leading up to the Christmas deadline, David and his crew carved painted and shipped over 125 Howling Coyote Step Stools that year. David opened his "Functional Animal Art" gallery in his Canyon Road home the fllowing year and his art has since "Gone to the Dogs" -- and Cats, and Horses, and even a Daffy Duck Bench for Warner Bros. Animator-Artist-Director, Chuck Jones. The larger-than-life Daffy bench was commissioned by Bill and Stella Pence, co-founders of the Telluride Film Festival, in celebration of Chuck's 80th Birthday!
